[EASY] Papulatus

Easy Papulatus is another significant boss that novice adventurers can encounter in MapleStory Universe. Like Zakum, Papulatus has long been an iconic boss in MapleStory, and the Universe version is designed with a relatively lower difficulty to allow many players to challenge it. Easy Papulatus’s boss fight focuses more on time limits and the use of specific objects rather than complex patterns.

How to Prepare and Enter Easy Papulatus

To challenge Easy Papulatus, players must meet the following prerequisites:

  • Minimum Level: Your character must be at least Level 115.

  • Prequest Completion: You must complete the required Papulatus prequest chain.

Entering the Battle & Initial Summon

Upon entering the boss map, you won’t immediately see Papulatus. Instead, you’ll be in a chamber where you need to summon him:

To initiate the encounter, you must place the Piece of Cracked Dimension item on the designated Interact/Harvest location within the boss field. This item is typically obtained through the pre-quest line or from previous boss clears.

The Time Sphere & Papulatus's Arrival

Once the Piece of Cracked Dimension is used, the “cracked dimension” will mend, and a glowing orb called the ‘Time Sphere’ will appear in the center of the map.

After a brief 6-second wait, or if you deal any damage to the Time Sphere, Papulatus will emerge, ready to begin the assault.

Phase 1: The Clock Robot

In the first phase, Papulatus commands a formidable clock-themed robot, attacking players with a variety of distinct skills.

Attacks to Watch Out For:

  • Crab Claw Wires: Be wary of clamp wires descending from the ceiling. These will attempt to grab and damage you. Pay attention to their shadows or visual cues to dodge.

 

  • Intersecting Lasers: A crucial mechanic in this phase involves crossing lasers. Papulatus will fire two distinct lasers. If these two lasers intersect and touch each other, Papulatus will take a massive 999,999 fixed damage. This is a significant source of damage against him, so try to manipulate your position to cause these intersections.

 

  • Other Robot Attacks: Expect various attacks from the robot, including physical slams, projectile attacks, and possibly localized energy blasts. These are generally telegraphed and manageable on Easy difficulty.

 

Strategy Focus: Your primary goal in Phase 1 is to reduce the robot’s HP to zero. While directly attacking the robot, actively look for opportunities to trigger the intersecting laser mechanic for substantial damage.

Phase 2: Agile Papulatus

Once Papulatus’s first HP bar reaches zero, his massive clock robot will explode, signaling the start of the second phase. Papulatus himself will then abandon the large robot, opting for a smaller, agile vehicle that allows him to fly around the entire map, launching attacks at players.

Easy Papulatus is an engaging boss that introduces players to multi-phase encounters and unique environmental mechanics. By understanding these key aspects, you’ll be well-equipped to conquer the Clockwork Master!
